Established in 2019, Relight was founded in response to a growing need within the professional community of psychotherapists, counsellors and those working in the helping professions to access nourishing professional development that could reach beyond theoretical application of skills. Co-directors and creative arts psychotherapists Rosie Strain & Linsey Clark were searching within their professional community for the kind of CPD that nourished them as reflective and creative practitioners and not only the methodology from which they work from. They believe that good Continuing Professional Development (CPD) can also focus on the intuative and innate wisdom of the practitioner by active and creative exploration of the whole individual within the professional context.
When the COVID-19 pandemic arrived in 2020, Relight grew by listening and responding to what the professional community and those whom they serve needed during a turbulent and exhausting time of working on the frontline of a mental health crisis. Answering the call from our community and establishing the web of connectivity is at the heart of Relight’s mission.
Post pandemic Linsey and Ellie have now gained their level 1 certification in Internal Family Systems. Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is a psychotherapeutic approach developed by Dr. Richard C. Schwartz that views the mind as a complex system of inner “parts” or sub-personalities. In IFS, individuals work to access and strengthen their core Self, a compassionate and unified aspect of their personality. The therapy aims to help individuals better understand and harmonize their inner parts, which can serve as managers, protectors, firefighters, or exiles, each with specific roles. By fostering communication and healing among these parts, IFS seeks to promote mental well-being, self-awareness, and emotional integration, ultimately leading to a sense of inner wholeness and self-compassion. It is a non-pathologizing approach that can be applied to address a variety of mental health issues, including trauma, anxiety, depression, addiction, and relationship difficulties. Look out for collaborative events into the future that explore IFS though creativity and embodiment.
